How to simplify your skincare routine in summer without neglecting your skin

Summer facial routine: how to simplify your skincare without neglecting your skin

There is something that happens to many of us in August: with the heat and the holidays, we stop taking care of our skin like we do the rest of the year.

And it is completely normal because there are days when the last thing you want to do, after hours at the beach or pool, is put products on in front of the mirror.

But here is the key to any good summer facial routine: you don't need to do more. You just need to keep doing it.

Why we abandon facial care in the summer

It's not laziness, it's logic: our schedules change, we travel, we sweat more, and our skin feels different to the touch, so we think it "doesn't need" as much care anymore. It is exactly the opposite. The sun, chlorine, salt, and sweat expose the skin more than ever, so this is not the time to abandon your skincare routine, but to simplify it: fewer steps, but without missing a single day.

3-step summer facial routine

Literally, everything your skin asks for at this time of year.

1. Facial cleansing, every night

Sunscreen, sweat, salt, chlorine... after a whole day, your skin needs to breathe. Nightly facial cleansing is the most important step in any summer routine: it prevents pores from becoming clogged and blemishes from appearing. A gentle gel or foam, without harsh sulfates, is enough.

2. Light hydration

One of the most widespread myths is thinking that oily skin doesn't need moisturizer in the summer. On the contrary: what changes is not whether you hydrate, but with what. Look for light, fast-absorbing textures with hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, or glycerin.

3. Sunscreen, every day

It's not just for a beach day: it is a daily step, whether you leave the house or not. It is what best protects against photoaging and dark spots, and the step that is most forgotten outside of holidays.

What about facial serum in the summer?

If your skin asks for it, yes. An anti-aging serum with antioxidants does not replace cream or sunscreen, but it enhances what you are already doing: it adds luminosity and reinforces antioxidant protection against the sun. It is not mandatory, but if your routine is already minimal, it is the only extra that is worth it.

Which cream to use in summer according to your skin type

Oily skin: gel or fluid, oil-free formulas. Dry skin: light but nourishing textures, without harsh exfoliants. Combination skin: a light, general-use cream is usually the most effective.

Frequently asked questions about the summer facial routine

Is it necessary to use serum in summer? It is not essential, but if you are looking for luminosity, firmness, and/or extra antioxidant protection, it is a good complement to cleansing, hydration, and sunscreen.

What happens if I stop hydrating during the holidays? The skin loses its protective barrier more easily, making it more likely that irritation will appear or visible aging will accelerate.

Can I use sunscreen and serum at the same time? Yes: first the serum, then the moisturizer, and finally the sunscreen (or apply a cream that already contains SPF directly, as in the case of our day moisturizer).

How do I take care of my skin in summer if I don't have time? With the essentials, but consistently: cleansing at night, light hydration, and sunscreen every day.

Because while you are enjoying the summer, your skin is also enduring a lot. So the advice, here as with everything, is simple: don't abandon your routine. Simplify it.

Sometimes taking care of our skin isn't about doing more. It's simply about not stopping.
